SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN
 
Good students are often AUTOMATICALLY considered for scholarships & grants by the college once you are accepted, AND COMPLETED the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal and PHEAA Aid) form. (FAFSA.GOV) 

When accepted by colleges, BRING ALL YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTERS and Financial Award letters from each college to which you’ve applied to the Guidance Center.

We will make copies for your file and the graduation profile. If you prefer, you may make a copy and bring the copy(ies) to us.

Following is a list of scholarships or grants for which you may apply. This bulletin will be published once a month, or more if needed, and distributed to all seniors in their homerooms. We also have information on trade or technical schools. Review this information and KEEP IT with your college materials.

Please re-check the exact dates on the scholarship's website for exact deadlines.

A brief summary of qualifications is given. If you meet those qualifications or need further information, come in to the GUIDANCE CENTER located outside the cafeteria.

Scholarships are listed by numbers in our scholarship file drawer. It goes by the NUMBER beside each scholarship or award listed below. We have some applications for the scholarships/grants in the Guidance Center. (Please do not take the last application from the files. See Counselors to make copies or to order more.) Many applications can also be done online. Listen, too, to the Daily Announcements for further scholarship news. Counselors will be happy to assist you.
 
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
  1. COMCAST LEADERS & ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
    We may nominate ONE student no later than DECEMBER. Students should come to the Guidance Center and nominate themselves by providing a short resume detailing their leadership activities. The award is a one-time grant of $1,000. Judge students have won this scholarship before. Check out on www.facebook.com/ComcastLeadersandAchievers.

    This scholarship rewards student who have at least a 2.8 GPA and have demonstrated a commitment to community service, positive attitude, and leadership skills. Employees of Comcast & their families are NOT eligible.
  2. CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY PARISH SCHOLARSHIP
    Parishioners of Catholic Churches are eligible for this $3,000 renewable scholarship. The pastor may nominate any number of parishioners (new freshmen or transfers) for this award.

    Criteria: Must be applying for admission to Catholic U. by Nov. for Early Action or by Feb. for Regular Decision. Scholarship application should be submitted with your Undergraduate Application for Admission. We have scholarship applications in Guidance.

  3. FIRESIDE CATHOLIC PUBLISHING ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP
    Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Seniors in Catholic high schools are eligible. We may submit ONE applicant by DECEMBER 1 and the student must submit his essay (750 words max) by November to the Guidance Counselor.

    Essay should address: “How is your religious education influencing your life?” We will select the student we think most successfully embraces his religious

  4. FOUNDATION FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS IN EDUCATION (FIRE)
    An award of $5,000, $2,500 and five awards of $1,000 will be given to students who write an essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm the college experience. Students should answer the question “Why is free speech important at our nation’s colleges and universities?” Essays should be 800-1,000 words.

  5. HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP
    To apply go to: www.horatioalger.org
    You must intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree and may start your studies at a two-year institution. Criteria: financial need, involvement in co-curricular and community activities, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, a minimum GPA of 2.0, & U.S. citizenship. Twenty-five $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to students in the state of PA. Critical financial need ($50, 000 or less per family) is preferred. The program is designed to increase student understanding and appreciation of the contributions of Benjamin Franklin and Horatio Alger. Father Judge students have won these awards previously.

    Through the generosity of the Neubauer Family Foundation, an additional fifty $5,000 awards be given to students who meet the above criteria.

  6. EMORY SCHOLARS AND GOIZUETA SCHOLARS
    Students may be nominated by applying to the Guidance Office and then responding to a Scholars-specific essay. For more information go to www.emory.edu/admission/scholars.

  7. DISCOVER COLLEGES
    This is a free, private college information service as well as a $2,500 scholarship drawing. Log onto: www.discovercolleges.com to request information & be automatically entered in the scholarship drawing.

  8. ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE
    Located just outside Burlington, VT, St. Michael’s College is offering the Edmunite Scholarship, worth $20,000, to a student who graduates from a Catholic high school and is admitted to St. Michael’s. Students who wish to be considered must apply for admission by January. For more information go to www.smcvt.edu.

  9. THE DANFORTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS                                                                     This program honors the student who embraces high ideals, whose life choices are guided by personal integrity, selflessness, a commitment to community, and a dedication to leadership.   10. COCA-COLA SCHOLARS FOUNDATION
    The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is awarding $3 million in scholarships to seniors who demonstrate leadership, commitment to community, and academic achievement. For eligibility requirements and application information, go to www.coca-colascholarship.org

  11. EAGLES FLY FOR LEUKEMIA
    The Kim Hill Scholarship is offered to a high school senior who has battled or is currently battling cancer. One full-tuition is also available for St. Joseph’s University and Drexel University. For more information go to [email protected]

  12. MENSA EDUCATION AND RESEARCH FOUNDATION
    Awards will be made on the basis of an essay of fewer than 550 words which describes the applicant’s career, vocational, or academic goal toward which the scholarship is to provide aid.   13. UNITED STEEL WORKERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
    An applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son or daughter of a member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 local union, participating in the Scholarship Program. Applicants are requested to submit scores obtained in the SAT’s, which should be taken no later than the January test date in which applications are made.

  14. JOHN F. KENNEDY PROFILE IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST
    Applicant must write an original and creative essay of 1,000 words or less that demonstrates an understanding of the political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage. For more information go to www.jfklibrary.org

  15. ROBOTICS TEAM MEMBERS
    Scholarships are being offered by the FIRST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM to high school students on FIRST teams. Awards range from $1,000 to full four-year programs. Deadlines vary: For more information, go to www.usfirst.org/aboutus/scholarships.

  16. BOSTON UNIVERSITY TRUSTEE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
    For students in the top ten percent of their class and active leaders in schools and communities. Each scholar receives a renewable scholarship covering four-year undergraduate tuition. For more information, come to Guidance or visit bu.edu/admissions/scholarships.

  17. “FIND THE RIGHT COLLEGE” SCHOLARSHIP

  20. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    Students will need to log on to: www.colgate.com/hazlau and follow the application process to submit 3 short essays of 500 words or less on a selection of topics. Deadline: (CHECK WEB SITE)

  21. VOICE OF DEMOCRACY
    Open to students in grades 9-12. Record your original 3-5 minutes essay on a standard cassette tape or CD. All recordings must be in your own voice. Contact www.vfw.org for more information.

  22. PA AMERICAN LEGION 78th ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST
    Respond to the question: “Should the Supreme Court be appointed or elected?” in no more than 1,000 words. The first-place winner will receive a scholarship of $3,500; the second, $3,000, and the third, $2,500. Entries should be submitted to the Guidance Office by Jan. 

  23. PA ORATORICAL CONTEST
    A two-part contest: first, prepare a 8-10 minute memorized oration on some phase of the US Constitution; second, a 3-5 minute extemporary oration on one of the four “assigned topics” assigned by National Headquarters. For more information go to

  24. VILLANOVA ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
    Villanova Presidential Scholarships are for students with a GPA of 4, a SAT score of 1450/1600 or a composite 33/36 on the ACT. Students must be nominated by their school Come to Guidance for more information.

  25. ASSUMPTION COLLEGE, WORCESTER, MA
    The Brother Gerard Brassard Scholarship of $2,500 is available to any student from Father Judge who applies and is accepted. Come to Guidance for more details.

  26. THE WASHINGTON CROSSING FOUNDATION
    A scholarship offering for students planning careers in government service. Each student is invited to write a one-page essay stating why he plans a career in government service, including any inspiration that can be derived from the leadership of George Washington in his crossing of the Delaware. College scholarships range from $500 to 5,000. For more information, go to www.gwcf.org.

  27. WACE NATIONAL CO-OP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – DREXEL

  29. UNITED STEEL WORKERS – IN MEMORY OF HUGH CARCELLA
    Six, four-year scholarships, each with a total of $4,000 ($1,000 per year) will be awarded in June. The scholarships will be available for use in an accredited college or university. An applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son or daughter or legal ward or a member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 (Eastern) local union participating in the Scholarship Program; or the son or daughter of a disabled or old age retiree or deceased member of an affiliated local union.   30. YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARD
    Graduating seniors who operate their own small business are eligible to receive a 2013 NFIB Award from the NFIB Foundation. Visit www.NFIB.com/YEA for more information.

  32. ROANOKE COLLEGE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

  33. THE ALLIANCE FOR YOUNG ARTISITS AND WRITERS

  34. BIG SUN ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP – PA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY

  35. RONALD McDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

    The RMJC scholarship program seeks to invest in students who are exemplary role models in their communities and have the initiative to fulfill their educational goals. Apply at www.rmhjc.org for complete program details and requirements.

  37. DELAWARE VALLEY ENGINEERS
    The committee is seeking applications from outstanding high school students in the Delaware Valley to receive a $1,000 award and to be recognized at the Awards Luncheon in February.   38. MENSA FOUNDATIN ESSAY COMPETITION

    Residents of a participating American Mensa local groups who are preparing for a post-secondary education for fall, 2013, are eligible to apply for awards of $300 to $1,000. For an entry form, go to www.mensafoundation.org/scholarships/

  39. GE-REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLALSHIP PROGRAM
    Exceptional students are invited to apply for a 201 Ge-Reagan Scholarship. This program awards up to 20 college-bound students who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships. For more information, go to [email protected]

  40. PSECU SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
    Six $8,000 scholarships are available to any student who is a member of PSECU or who is interested in joining. This is a PA approved Credit Union. Come to Guidance for more information or call 800.237.7328 and select option 6, then extension 2113.

  41. PHILADELPHIA CITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
    Scholarships are available for four-year assistance to undergraduate students in the amount of $1,000 per academic year for 50 deserving students. For more information, go to [email protected] Deadline: January 31, 2013.

  49. TEMPLE UNIVERSITY
    Students may nominate themselves by signing up in Guidance by Jan. 25. Five OAS scholarships in the amount of $3,000, $5,000, $8,000, and $10,000 and full tuition are being offered. Students who are in the top 10% of their class, have SAT scores well above the mean and are interested in attending Temple should apply.

  50. FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON UNIVERSITY
    Metropolitan Scholar Awards are offered to students whose SAT is 1300 or more, and who rank in the top 10% of their class. For more information, call 800-338-8803. Deadline: January 12, 2013.

  51. THE UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON
    One scholarship is offered to a graduating senior to be named the Leadership in Service Scholarship in the amount of $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four years.)

  56. AMDA COLLEGE AND CONSERVATORY OF THE PERFORMING ARTS

  58. PHILADELPHIA CITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
    Fifty scholarships in the amount of $1,000 are awarded to high school seniors each year. To qualify a student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, have taken the SAT’s, have filed the FAFSA form and intend to obtain a bachelor’s degree as a full-time student.   60. KELLY ROONEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
    The Foundation seeks to provide a one-time scholarship of $10,000 to a high school senior who lost his or her mother to cancer and who will be attending an accredited four-year college or university. (A Judge student won this last year.) Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

  61. IMAGINE AMERICA HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS
    Any student planning to attend one of the four trade schools listed below can receive a $1,000 scholarship! Go to www.imagine-american.org to apply. We can nominate five students. This scholarship is good for The Art Institute of Phila., The Automotive Training Center, and Kaplan Career Institute

  62. LA SALLE UNVERSITY THOMAS F. MC GOWAN SCHOLARSHIP
    This scholarship is open to a Judge student who intends to attend LaSalle University, who has completed all required application materials, and who completes a one-page essay explaining how his experiences at Judge will help make him make a difference in college.   64. DAVID NELSON JR. MEMORIAL FUND

  65. BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
    1,100 scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to students who demonstrate good grades, commitment to community service, and work experience. Apply online at http://pr.bby.com

  66. DE SALES UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
    Two Scholarships are available: The Oblate Parish Scholarship and the Oblate Sponsor Scholarship. Each award provides a total of $20.000 over four years. Come to Guidance for more info. Deadline: January 28, 2013

  68. THE WILT CHAMBERLAIN MEMORIAL FUND

    Compose an essay that explains how your college education will help you cultivate prosperity in your neighborhood/community. 1st prize - $10,000; 2nd, $5,000; 3rd, $5,000; and 30 additional awards will be given.   75. THE IVY LEAGUE JARVIS MOSS SHEPHERD EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
    This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to major in business or education. Selection will be based on leadership ability, GPA of 3.0 or higher,

    community service, and activities. Come to Guidance for more information.

    The TILF Philly’s Teens are Cookin’ Culinary Scholarship for a senior who plans

    to major in culinary arts.

    The Johnny Sample Memorial Scholarship is for a senior who plans to attend the

    University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The recipient must write an essay on the

  76. COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF PHILADELPHIA
    A new online scholarship application process which allows students to search and apply for multiple scholarships by completing one online application. Students can visit www.ccp.edu/scholarships to search and complete the application process.

  77. ORLEANS TECHNICAL INSTITUTE
    Scholarships are based on academic achievement, transcript, attendance, personal essay, letters of recommendation, and results of skills test. The application can be downloaded from www.OrleansTech.edu/court-reporting. Deadline: April 15

  78. THE RESTAURANT SCHOOL AT WALNUT HILL COLLEGE
    Annual Culinary and Chocolate competitions to showcase talents to provide scholarship opportunities to contestants. Registration is due no later than Friday, April 12, 2013.
