The goals and philosophy of the Science Department that will aid and be consistent with those of the school and the Secondary School System of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will be to provide a broad based science program which will seek to :
-
Provide an understanding of the major scientific principles including the historical perspectives of the development of these principles and the continuous state of change of these principles.
-
Develop the ability to think critically and to refine the skills of observation, interpretation, judgment, and experimentation to better understand the immediate environment and to be able to solve new problems using the scientific method.
-
Instill an appreciation of science as an active enterprise always changing, seeking unity and simplicity in its efforts to describe and predict changes in the universe.
-
Relate the Christian value system to the contemporary problems of science and technology.
-
Provide an understanding of the social implication of science and technology and to instill an appreciation of the products of science and technology so that the resources of the universe may be used wisely and effectively.
-
Provide for the future educational and career needs of the students in terms of both guidance and practical laboratory experience.
