Father Judge was founded in 1954 to serve the needs of the Catholic people in the growing northeastern neighborhoods of Philadelphia. His Eminence John Cardinal O'Hara asked the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales to staff the all-boys school. The Oblates had started Northeast Catholic High School in 1926 and continued their tradition of teaching in the spirit of their patron, St. Francis de Sales, at Fr. Judge.
The new school on Solly Avenue was named after Fr. Thomas Judge, a priest who, like Francis de Sales, encouraged people to find God in the ordinary events of everyday life. Thomas Judge had founded the congregation of sisters whose "motherhouse" is located on the other end of Solly Avenue. The Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity generously donated the property which became Fr. Judge High School and continue to be a presence in the community which is Fr. Judge.
Today the Oblates continue to staff Father Judge. The Oblates who work at Judge, along with dozens of dedicated lay faculty and staff, continue the mission of bringing the Salesian spirit of gentleness and strength to the hundreds of young men who have come to Solly Avenue for over 50 years!

Father Judge High School is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Instruction and the Middle States Association of College and Secondary Schools.
